West Coast Creators Blog Hop (February 2021)

It's that time of month again where I am hopping with my most talented teammates!  This month we are showcasing Birthday cards, in particular cards made with the Hey Birthday Chick bundle (for those of us who own it). How adorable is the cupcake pecking chick?!

I realize as I write this that I had intended to use the All Wired Up background stamp for this card but promptly forgot when I actually got down to crafting.

I started with the stamped, die cut and coloured chick image and the card grew from there.  This chick was so fun to colour using my Stampin' Blends markers.  I used a blend of light and dark Daffodil Delight for the body.  The  head feathers are a combination of Rococo Rose and Pumpkin Pie (I think, might be Mango). The cupcake uses Rococo, Granny Apple Green and Petal Pink and it is from the cupcake liner that the general colour scheme for the card was born.

The image is mounted on the largest Stitched Circle die cut from the Free Saleabration Oh So Ombre DSP.

I initially was using Thick Basic White cardstock for my card base but I wasn't love how much contrast it was adding to my card.  I swapped it out, trying Petal Pink, Blushing Bride and Rococo Rose but found them all to be adding too much pigment to the design.  What to do?!  I know... Blending Brushes to the rescue!  To create a shade of Rococo Rose similar to that found in the DSP on the stitched circle, I lightly blended Rococo Rose ink to the edges of my card base.  It adds just the right amount of colour.

The background DSP layers are also from the same DSP, just flipped over to use the side with a pattern. I also used scraps of the same DSP to die cut the Happy Birthday Greeting.  I die cut it in two shades of Granny Apple Green and then layered them, slightly offset, to create a 3D type block lettering. Reminds me of many a book report title page of my youth!

To finish it all off, I tied a piece of both the Whisper White and Blushing Bride Twine (Snail Mail Twine Combo Pack) together around the DSP layers and added 3 of the Elegant Faceted Gems (annual catalogue) in Pearlescent White.

I'm super pleased with how this simple design turned out and I can't wait to pop it in the mail for an upcoming birthday!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Be sure to 'hop' to as many of the others as you can!
