Kylie's International Blog Hop July 2020 - Thank You Cards

Eek, I'm so excited!! This is my first time adding my blog to this International Blog Hop!  I'm also a bit intimidated as the level of finished designs in this hop is Off. The. Charts!  Like I mean WOW!

I finally found some time to play with the Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle! I've been biding my time as so many other demos had such amazing cards on display.  I chose to use a technique new to me to colour these gorgeous images and I'm in love!

A giant shout out to Emma Goddard who introduced this technique of using your Water Painters (aqua painters) with the whisper white Craft Ink Refill to paint your stamped images. She also introduced me to the idea of stamping some of these images we would colour onto coloured cardstock rather than white or vanilla.

The beauty of using the whitewash first is that all of your colours have a lighter tone as well as you already have white at the end of all the petals or anywhere else in your image you might like to have that natural look of white showing through.

After you have stamped your image using Staz On ink onto your coloured cardstock (I chose Crumb Cake), the next step is to paint (or whitewash) the entire image with the watery craft ink as shown in this photo.  Once the image has dried, you can then get to colouring.  I chose to use my watercolour pencils here but you could also use your waterpainters with other colours of ink.

I chose to colour the large flower and one of the small flowers with the following combo: Daffodil Delight covering the majority of the petal with Pumpkin Pie then applied for my shading.  The shading colour is applied with more pressure to really make it pop.  The other small flower, I chose to use Calypso Coral for the shading. I then added Wink of Stella along all of the shaded lines as well for some extra shimmer.

I chose to use another favourite technique: colouring on vellum with watercolour pencils and then applying my blender pen to blend it out.  I did this using the same three shades (daffodil, pumpkin & coral) to create the die cut for the large flower.  I chose to leave the centre of it uncoloured.

Finishing touches where vellum die cuts of foliage as well as a grounding piece of the Whisper White Faux Linen ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack.   I chose to stamp an ombre greeting (Pumpkin Pie & Calypso Coral ink pads) to match the effect of the DSP and then I applied some clear embossing powder so it would pop off the paper.  This Artistry Blooms DSP is gorgeous and perfect for this design.
