Sea of Textures - Clear Embossing Technique

It is with mixed emotion that I create with this bundle of products.  I was 'gifted' the Sea of Textures bundle when it first came out and asked to share a live presentation with other Stampin' Up!® demonstrators at an On Stage event in Red Deer, Alberta Canada.  I'll be honest, at first glance, this was not a bundle that I would normally have given a second glance but I've now developed a soft spot for it and sadly, it is retiring.

I did a few fun things with this card in addition to the embossing technique.

First I stamped and die cut the octopi from DSP. It allowed me to get the multi-colours you see on the tentacles.  I also used DSP for the underwater blue background, the netting, and the starfish. All of the DSP used in these cards is from the See a Silhouette DSP pack. (also retiring)

I've also die cut some vellum with the Stitched Nested Labels to allow the octopus to stand out on the background.

Next I used my aquapainter and Coastal Cabana ink to colour a scrap of watercolour paper to stamp my greeting on. I stamped while the paper was still wet so that my ink would run slightly as if it were underwater. The greeting is from the Itty Bitty Birthday stamp set. I then cut this out with the Stitched Rectangles dies.

And for the final effect, create the glassy underwater finish.  To do this, stamp the entire card front with Versamark Ink and then cover with clear embossing powder. Heat and Voila!

Lastly I grabbed the retiring Glitter Enamel Dots in both Gorgeous Grape and Coastal Cabana to finish it off.

I'm so pleased with how this card turned out. It was inspired by a design from thestampcycle.

We are in the final few days to get all of the products I used here so don't delay if you want to work with this Designer Series Paper or stamp bundle.

  1. Love how you used the vellum to draw focus on this card! Great idea and beautiful card. Thanks for joining TGIF Challenges this week.
