This card is serving two purposes: a team challenge AND celebrating many years of hard work for my niece. She recently was accepted into the education program at the university of her choice after years of hard work and persistence. I wanted to celebrate her success with this card showing up in her mailbox. Who doesn't love some happy mail?!
To say my niece LOVES pink is an understatement so that is where this card started. And what better DSP than the Broadway Bound Suite. I layered two pieces of the DSP across the width of the card and went from there. I had it directly on the Basic Black card front to start but it needed something so I added the embossing with the Scattered Sequins folder and a second layer of black cardstock.
Now we needed a focal point in addition to the sentiment. Out came the Cake Builder punch and coordinating stamp set (Piece of Cake). I used my Lovely Lipstick Stampin' Blends as the coordinate with the DSP as well as Gray Granite for the cake stand. I then used both the Stitched Shape and the Layering Ovals Framelits to frame the cake again using cardstock choices to bring out the colours of the DSP. Man, am I ever going to miss Lemon Lime Twist!
The sentiment is from the Well Written Bundle. As I was originally planning to use the thinlets and stamp set as the focus of this card. I stamped using Memento ink and then clear embossing powder to make it pop. Last but not least, I added the amazing ribbon from the Classic Garage Suite both behind the sentiment and as the top of my cake stand.
This card would be easy to recreate although the creative process took me the better part of an hour. I find it can be hard to switch gears when I come into the creative process with a particular idea in mind.
Hope both you and my niece like this card as much as I do!
