West Coast Creators Monthly Blog Hop (October 2020)

It's that time again! Blog hopping with my creative team members from across the country. I'm continually inspired by this crew and their creations.

I picked myself up the Whiskey Business stamp set during the stamp sale in September as a treat for myself.  And ever since it hit my desk, I've been tossing around ideas of how to turn it into a play on words and use for Christmas cards. Here is one of the designs I came up with.

This is a design CASE from the annual catalogue (pg. 33). I needed to bring in the holiday feel which I chose to do using red and green. I chose a red based DSP piece from the Heartwarming Hugs collection and the Old Olive gold trimmed satin ribbon from the All the Trimmings Ribbon Combo Pack.

In order to have the one glass sitting in front of the decanter. I had to mask it out.  To do this, I stamped the glass then I covered it with a post it note of the same image that I had fussy cut out.  This then allowed me to stamp over it with the decanter and make it look like it was sitting behind.

The colouring for the whiskey was inspired by Laurie Alexander of Stamp with Laurie. Using a combination of Light and Dark Cinnamon Cider plus Dark Mango Melody to create the amber liquid. (others have used Light Mango Melody which I might try next time).  To add a bit of realism to the glass, I used Light Balmy Blue with the colour lifter. I've read about lots of tips for making the glass look more realistic which I may try on my next version.

To create the look of a table top, I coloured with my light Smoky Slate Stampin' Blend and then stamped over it with the wood grain stamp in the set (using stamped off Smoky Slate). I added the stamped wood grain after the entire card was already put together so I was taking a big risk that it would look ok but I'm so glad I did.  It really adds a nice dimension that the card was lacking without it.

Wondering where the greeting came from? Well.... I used my Stampin' Write Basic Black marker to colour in all of the words except Birthday on the greeting in the Whiskey Business set.  I then grabbed a greeting from the Snowflake Wishes set which has a perfect sized (& perfect font) 'Christmas' that I could fit where the word Birthday would have been.  Voila, the ideal greeting!  I stamped this all on one of the die cut shapes from the Tasteful Labels Dies.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Be sure to 'hop' to as many of the others as you can!
