Colour Challenge from Hand Stamped Sentiments

This colour challenge popped into my inbox and I knew it was one I had to try! It seemed like the perfect timing with spring and Easter around the corner.  I surprised myself when I didn't create an Easter card, lol!  But I do think my card has the feeling of spring.

I combined an old sketch from a different challenge with this colour challenge which actually led to some pretty quick creating for me.  In addition, I gave myself a 30 minute time limit to create this design live (video posted below) on my Facebook Page. I also decided ahead of time that I would work with the host set from Stampin' Up!'s January - June mini catty, Suite Sampler.

With the given colour combo, I immediately thought to use the Hydrangea Hill DSP and the coordinating hydrangea image. This would take care of two of the 3 colours.  To incorporate the So Saffron, I pulled out my subtles DSP pack (with the new patterns available early during Saleabration). I had considered a Basic White card base but I found it to be too much of a contrast from the Saffron so stuck with a tone on tone design instead.

Okay... the stamping!

On the largest stitched circle die cut, I stamped the image using smoky slate. Whenever I want something softer than black, I look to smoky slate or crumb cake. To get multiple blooms, I inked up only the top part of the image and stamped it repeatedly.  I then use my Blending Brushes with Highland Heather for the blooms and Pear Pizzazz for the leaves. As an afterthought, I ended up sponging any white space with So Saffron which I think adds to the cohesiveness of the card.

The dragonfly image was stamped in Basic Gray on Basic White cardstock. I then sponged with Highland Heather before adding the other colours using my Stampin' Write markers.  I then liberally applied Wink of Stella to the wings before fussy cutting the image out.

After considering leaving it free of a sentiment, I didn't like where I had a dark spot of ink on my image so I used Itty Bitty Greetings and my Classic Label punch for a bit of cover up.  I really like this addition of Smoky Slate to the image.
