Mason Jars Meet Colour Challenge

Ever since I started playing with Stampin' Up!'s® new Jar of Flowers Bundle, I've had an idea brewing. How can I use those jars in a way that is slightly outside of the catalogue pages?  I did a little search on the 'ol internet and my idea was born. Painted mason jars!  You've seen them, they are all the rage for kitchen containers or centerpieces. So how could I make that happen with papers and ink?

My initial ideas were for jars in either pink, navy, yellow or a chalky white so when this week's TGIF challenge came out, I was ecstatic!  The challenge was to create a card using Crumb Cake, Bumble Bee & Night of Navy... perfect.

To create a bit of visual interest, I didn't want to just punch out jars in basic cardstock. So, I took a look at all of my Bumble Bee DSP sheets and found a subtle pattern to punch a jar from.  To finish this jar off, I created a burlap type wrap using one of the designs in the World Of Good DSP which I then embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder.  I added some of the new Navy ribbon from the Playing with Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack and a tiny thank you sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings.

I also wanted to tone down the darkness that the navy cardstock would bring to the design. To create this effect, I white-washed some navy jars.  This involves taking some craft ink (from a re-inker) and your aqua-painter (or the newly coined Water Painters) and painting some watery white ink over the dark cardstock. I love how this turned out and will definitely be making more cards using this idea. I finished off the navy jars with a bit of the woven thread around the neck of the jar. 

Now to fill the jars. I could have stamped and die cut the sunflowers using the Celebrate Sunflowers bundle but I chose to fussy cut these beauties from the Flowers for Every Season DSP; they were already perfectly shaded in Bumble Bee and also the perfect size for my design.  When I'm looking to create a softer look, or in this case a bit more of a country feel, I prefer to use Very Vanilla over Whisper White.  I also think it tones very nicely with anything in the yellow colour family.  So for the middle jar, I used my Forever Fern dies and cut out two of this particular die.  I then flipped one over so that I could layer them for a fuller effect.

For the background, I knew I didn't want straight Crumb Cake, nor did I really want Bumble Bee or Vanilla.  I considered some DSP but then remembered the new Drybrush background stamp in my collection.  I inked this up in Crumb Cake and stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock.  I am in love with this stamp!  What an amazing background it provides with so little effort! (and very little cost at only $23)

I'm super pleased with how this card turned out.  I think I might give it to the principal at kiddo's school.  She is an amazing woman without a pandemic but has really gone out of her way to maintain our school's feel of community even when we couldn't be together.
