Brayered Background Video

I took some time to video this technique.  I'm still finding my groove with it but it is a lot of fun and pretty easy to create as stunning backdrop!

All of the details of how I made these backgrounds are in the video below!  I used the Friend Like You Bundle for the stamped images and dies. Each background was done on Very Vanilla Cardstock.

Sunset Card
Card stock: Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Blackberry Bliss, Rich Razzleberry
Ink: Mango Melody, Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze, Blackberry Bliss

Sunrise Card
Card stock: Pool Party, Pear Pizzaz, Old Olive, Bermuda Bay

June Paper Pumpkin Alternate

I wanted to take a minute to blog about this one particular alternate as I did a bit of stamping to really take it away from the original.

First there is the stamping on the card base.  I used Terracotta Tile and the starfish stamp from the kit. You can see that some of the images have two tones to them.  As I was stamping them off, I was rolling the stamp so that the image wouldn't be entirely muted.

Next, I wanted to stamp the sentiment in Terracotta as well but I had already stamped on all of the small pieces that came with the kit so I was left with only solid vanilla pieces.  I wanted a bit of background and texture to them similar to the kit pieces so I used another stamp from the kit and some crumb cake to mimic the pieces supplied in the kit.

Lastly, I wanted to add some Terracotta ribbon.  To do this, I took the current in colour ribbon which has outer edges of Terracotta and a centre strip of sahara sand and cut one of the edges off and then used that as my ribbon.  It's easy to do and I've since done it on a few other designs.

Playing with July’s Paper Pumpkin! Top card is the kit design and the bottom is my stepped up alternate. What do you think? These kits are so great for any level of stamper...create as instructed or add a few products you have on hand and make it your own!😍 #gillybeancrafting #julypaperpumpkin #paperpumpkinalternative #cardkittoyourdoor #instablog

Night Sky - Friend Like You Bundle & Waterfront Stamp Set

I had this idea for a night sky version of my bulrush card using the Friend Like You Bundle.  I also needed a card for a colour challenge within the bigger team I am part of so thought I would tie the two together.

This card was my initial result. When I had brainstormed the idea, I saw myself using the star and constellation stamps from the Little Twinkle stamp set as well as white embossing.  I like the effect but it's almost like the white stands out too much in my opinion.  I also wasn't 100% pleased with how layered my brayering looks (I'm still learning this technique for sure).  The smaller palm trees are stamped from the Waterfront stamp set.  I stamped the image twice to ensure I had full coverage.

Inks used to brayer: Pretty Peacock, Blueberry Bushel, Blackberry Bliss

Cardstock used: Pretty Peacock, Basic Black, Blackberry Bliss, Coastal Cabana

Embossing: Versamark Ink & White Powder; Memento Ink & Clear Powder
This is version 2 and I LOVE it!! I brayered using the same colours and in the same order but changed up my approach.  Pretty Peacock is on the bottom with Blueberry Bushel overlapping in the middle.  This time, however, I brayered Blackberry Bushel more in the centre of the sky to try to create an image of where the sun would have been.  I then brayered more Blueberry Bushell around the edges.  I was pleased with how it turned out but know that if I tried this approach again it wouldn't look the same.

I also wanted a more subtle star effect. This time I chose to use clear embossing powder and I switched up the stamp I used.  This time I used the speckle stamp from Waterfront.  I'd still like to figure something else out but I do like this effect.

The only thing I would still change about this card is for the sentiment to pop more.  I don't want to introduce white or vanilla cardstock but perhaps if I stamped on Pretty Peacock or Blueberry Bushel cardstock instead of Blackberry Bliss.
