Simple Stamping: Paper, Ink and A Punch

Stampin' Up! has introduced a Simple Stamping Initiative since their 30th anniversary late in 2018.  Each month they are issuing a new challenge with a theme and which products are allowed.  January's challenge was ink, paper and a punch and a Valentine's theme.

This card here does actually meet the criteria.  I used stamps, ink and paper as well as one punch.  Although the heart looks like it was punched out, I fussy cut this out using scissors.

Our larger team, also had this challenge but without the Valentine's requirement. I realize now that I failed at this but my intentions were pure when I started.  If we remove the ribbon from this card design, then I have kept to the criteria, or have I?  Nope!  If you were being picky, I have used DSP (patterned paper) which is technically not allowed!

And if that wasn't enough, I still felt like something was missing and added the metallic gold pearls to the final project! In my defense, this is one of my designs for an upcoming sold out class so I wanted it to have those little extras.

I'm excited for February's challenge which is Birthday with paper, ink, stamps and DSP.  So I could actually use the Wish card if I remove the bow but I think I'll start fresh.  Hope you'll be back to check it out!

All Geared Up

I wanted to play some more with this amazing suite of products and to finally incorporate the gear dies into one of my designs. I'm also trying to really use new DSP in all my projects as I often end up with so much unused when a catalogue ends.

I started with a Basic Gray cardbase.  I then used two pieces of the Classic Garage DSP with a Tranquil Tide base to them.  The focal DSP is framed using the same marbled DSP that the sentiment is stamped on.  The gray gears are all cut out of the DSP as well.  The carried over Black Foil is then used for the final gears to add a bit of kick.  As I am giving this card to my nephew, I added a bit of silver twine rather than ribbon as my finishing touch. If I were to change anything wth this card, I think I would have embossed the sentiment so it stood out a bit more but otherwise I'm pretty pleased with a card i threw together on the fly.

We are only 3 weeks into the new Occasions Catalogue and SAB but already items are going on backorder as well as selling out completely!  Don't wait if there is something you really want and don't forget that every $60 spend earns you a FREE SAB item.

Sketch AND Colour Challenge In One

I am aiming to make at least one new card (and blog about it) a week.  To help me on this quest, I am now aiming to participate in TGIF challenges as well as Hand Stamped Sentiments (HSS) challenges.
This week, I have combined both challenges into one card. (challenges are pictured at the bottom of the post)

The colour challenge was Petal Pink, Fresh Fig and Mossy Meadow.  For some reason I have 3 different shades of pale pink cardstock in my shelves so I am thankful to use some of it up!!  I love this card and these colours together!

I started with a Petal Pink card base and then a second layer which I embossed with the Subtles folder. I then layered a piece of Nature's Poem DSP over a piece of Fresh Fig cardstock. I stamped the large image from Rooted In Nature in Fresh Fig (stamped off once) onto Very Vanilla cardstock and fussy cut it out.  The leaves are both embossed and cut out using the Nature's Roots Framelits. I added some Linen Thread and use Rose Glimmer Paper for the sentiment from the Celebrate You Thinlits.

This card will be quick to recreate now that I have the design so you are likely to see something like it again!

Geared Up Garage Suite

So many AMAZING new products in the Occasions catalogue.  I need more time to create! I started with this Masculine Themed Suite as my brother is having a milestone birthday in February and he has a custom built red mustang so I thought this would be perfect!

I started with the red car and went from there.  I stamped the car using Memento Ink on Real Red cardstock and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder to give all the black details that metallic shine. I then used a strip of the carried over metallic black ribbon (think the Halloween products in the holiday catalogue) and mounted on a punched out Starburst of Silver foil (this is actually the galvanized paper but it did not carry over so future cards would be silver foil).

The layers behind are not cardstock but instead pieces of the DSP from the suite.  There is a great assortment of both patterns (as seen behind the card), as well as solid sheets.  I embossed the black piece with the Hexagon folder (looks like a nut) and mounted on a basic gray DSP layer.

To add a bit of texture to the card, I used the oil spill stamp from the stamp set and inked that up in Smokey Slate to stamp on the Real Red card base.  I then stamped the sentiment using Memento Ink.  I love the finished effect and this will be quick and easy to make in multiple colours using the colour palette in the card stock (Tranquil Tide, Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Basic Black and Basic Gray)

The stamp set for this suite has some great images as well as sentiments, including one for Father's Day. Don't delay in adding it to your collection.  Why not join me on January 31st for my Geared Up Garage Class?
