Sneak Peak of Occasions Catty and Sale-a-Bration Items!!

Our team challenge for early December was a sketch challenge.  Due to a busy week, I had roughly 20 minutes to put this card together.  That's where sketches are amazing!

The colour combination here is Mint Macaron and Coastal Cabana with a touch of Smoky Slate.  All of the stamped images are from the NEW Sale-a-Bration set called Hello Cupcake.  The DSP is from the Occasions Catalogue. It is part of the How Sweet It Is Suite. It is bright and cheerful and a must if you love to create birthday cards.

If you are in need of a paper catalogue, drop me a comment and I'll get one out to you. You won't want to miss the amazing items being offered come January.

Holiday Products in Excess

Our most recent team challenge was to create using products that customers could still easily get their hands on and more specifically were actually on the excess quantities list.

I can't believer that these thinlits and these silver foiled cards are in excess!  These thinlits and the bundled stamp set were one of the first items I ordered this holiday season.

I stamped the baubles on Mint Macaron and Petal Pink papers using versamark and then heat embossed with silver embossing powder.  This was my way of tying the silver into all of the elements of the card.

The DSP is the Twinkle Twinkle which allowed me to bring in the Night of Navy to ground the card.  I stamped the sentiment (from the Beautiful Baubles set) in Navy and behind it stamped the swirl from the Star of Light set (annual catalogue) in Smoky Slate.

Although not traditional in the colour scheme, I still like the overall holiday feel.

Dreaming of a White Christmas

Wow!  Looking at my blog post history, I can see how I need to refocus my energies here! Apologies to any of my followers.  I've been so busy creating and holding classes that I haven't been posting! Good news though.... I have lots of great projects to share now!

Let's start with this card created from a favourite from the Annual Catalogue - Half Full.
This card proved a popular design during my Stamp A Stack class series which was great as  it allowed me to showcase many product choices.

First we have the amazing Half Full stamp set.  A wine based set with both seasonal and  non seasonal sentiments so it can be used year round for the wine lovers in your life.  The wine glass and bottle are both coloured with the Stampin' Blends (daffodil delight, smoky slate, basic black) and then the wine bottle was fussy cut (an easy shape to do this quickly and in multiples).
The DSP was the amazing Dashing Along series which has just been released to purchase (it was originally an ordering incentive only).  I then added the red rhinestones and striped burlap trim both from the holiday catalogue (and still available) and a bit of the solid red ribbon from the annual catalogue for the bow.

The best news about this card is that all of the supplies to create it are still in stock and can be ordered today!!

Snow Is Glistening

I have never had so much fun working with a limited edition suite of projects.  Although these products will no longer be available after November 30th, I know I will continue to use them in my personal projects for years to come!

The colour theme for this card is Tranquil Tide, Soft Sea Foam and White. Both snowflakes were die cut using the Snowfall Thinlits. The larger in the Velveteen Paper (sadly already sold out) and the smaller in Tranquil Tide cardstock.  The sentiment is from the Snow Is Glistening stamp set.  To round out the card, I embossed the Whisper White cardstock with the Softly Falling folder (annual catalogue) and added the Velvet Tranquil Tide ribbon (holiday catalogue).

Tips and Tricks with Punches

Quick little video I did recently showcasing how you can make different sizes with a punch.  Such a great trick!  You can also do for sentiments larger than the punch as long as you trim the paper to the exact width of the punched shape so you can feed it through.  Comment if that is unclear and I can post a second video!

Happy Friday!!

Abstract Impressions - Quick and Easy Thank You

I wanted a sample of 3 x 3 note cards for a recent craft fair that I could quickly put together.  Abstract Impressions and the In Colour DSP to the rescue!

The stamp set is one of the photopolymer two step sets; a breeze to line up even without a positioning guide (stamparatus, stamp-a-ma-jig).  All of the greenery is done with Lemon Lime Twist and Call Me Clover.  The Grapefruit Grove was paired with Calypso Coral, Blueberry Bushel paired with Balmy Blue and Lovely Lipstick paired with Blackberry Bliss.

This set was not on my radar initially but I am so glad that it is part of my collection.  You do not want to overlook this stamp set for quick to put together all occasion cards.

Santa's Workshop Suite

If you follow any sort of Stampin' Up! social media, you will be seeing this suite of products everywhere!  It is so darn cute!  Today, I am showcasing some super quick tags I made.

All of the images (Mrs. Claus, elf, gifts and North Pole sign) are cut out of the amazing DSP using the coordinating framelits!  It's so awesome!  And they designed the paper in such a way that there is space between each image you would want to cut out so no image is wasted!!!

I then stamped the sentiment (in Memento) on the Mrs. Claus tag and the Seal of the North Pole (in Poppy Parade) on the elf tag and added the Poppy Parade ribbon.  Easy Peasy! I also stamped North Pole on the sign post in Memento.

These tags took about 5 minutes to create!  You will not regret ordering this suite of products.  Unfortunately, it has proven to be so popular that both the DSP and the Memories and More Cards are already on back order!  But not to worry - they are both due to be back in stock mid October - still plenty of time to get in your order and all your crafting before the holidays!

Creative Challenge - Fall

Although I have my own small team of demonstrators - The Crafty Beans - I am, and they are as well, all part of a bigger team  - The West Coast Creators.  And twice a month, we are given a creative challenge.  This time - Fall

This was the card I created and I love it!  I love the simplicity. I love the strength it portrays. I love the message and I love the warmth in the colour scheme.

I chose to work with the Rooted in Nature Suite as well as use up the last piece of a background I had created using embossing paste and re-inkers (I promise a video on this technique soon!). Both pieces of DSP are from the Nature's Poem pack. I used the Stitched Shape Framelits for both the oval and the square tilted on it's side.  I used three different Stampin' Write Markers to achieve the colour scheme on the tree.  I LOVE the markers and use them continuously, even with the introduction of the Stampin' Blends.  I used Early Espresso for the trunk and branches and then Pear Pizzaz and Pumpkin Pie to create the fall foliage. Both the sentiment and tree are from Rooted in Nature as well as the Framelits to cut the tree out.

I felt this would be a perfect sympathy card for a male recipient.  In the end though I sent it to a dear colleague who lost her son.  I felt it was more appropriate than an overly flowery card.

The Rooted in Nature bundle is a bit of an investment as far as cost goes but I guarantee that you won't regret this bigger purchase.  Or why not add it to your Christmas list for your loved ones.  I know that's what I always used to do with bigger sets I really wanted (until I became a demo that is!)

Colour Challenge

Nothing like a sketch or colour challenge to get your creative juices flowing and get your out of your go to crafting comfort zone!

The challenge was to put together Night of Navy, Gorgeous Grape and Flirty Flamingo.  I came up with the design and then opted to make it into a 3x3 rather than have it being a smaller focus on a regular sized card.

The Night of Navy DSP is from the Twinkle Twinkle Suite and cut into a square with the Stitched Shaped Framelits.  I embossed the Gorgeous Grape cardstock with the Lovely Floral embossing folder and then used the Layering Circles Framelits to cut out. The Flirty Flamingo flowers ares stamped from the Pop of Petals set and then punched using the Four Petal Flower punch.  I then used the 2" circle punch to cut out the vellum.  I stamped a sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings set (a must) in versamark ink and then embossed with silver embossing powder.

I'm pretty pleased with the end result and might even pair these colours together again!

Memories and More Card Packs

Do you wish you could make your own cards at home but come up with too many reasons why you can't?  It's too expensive. I need too many supplies. I'm not creative enough!

Meet the Memories and More Card Packs from Stampin' Up!. The come with pre-printed cards fronts with both sentiments and patterns.  The entire pack coordinates with itself and easily coordinates with a few other key colours and accessories if you want to jazz them up even more!

Of the two cards pictured above, on the my heart is full card, all I added was a touch of ribbon and some rhinestones but you could easily make the card without it.  For the Thank you you make me smile card, I simply mounted the card pack pieces on a larger piece of black card stock and added a touch of ribbon.

Even better now, Stampin' Up! has added two sized of card bases and envelopes that perfectly match the different sized of the Memories and More card pieces.  The Thanks card on the left is on the larger card base (all I added was twine and a layer that the thanks sticker is on) and the Just a Note card is on the small base. I didn't add a single extra thing to the smaller card and I think it looks just as fabulous.

Stampin' Up! offers mutliple different designs for the Memories and More card packs and even has a holiday version which is available now!

Twinkle Twinkle Suite

This card was inspired by three things:  I wanted to promote and finally use this suite of products, I need a card for an upcoming wedding and we had a creative sketch challenge on our West Coast Creators team page.

I'm really pleased with the end result. I started with the background paper which is from the Twinkle Twinkle DSP. I then paired that with a piece of Balmy Blue DSP from the Tranquil Textures pack which I had run through the Big Shot with the Stitched Shapes Dies.  I stamped the constellation image from the Little Twinkle stamp set in Night of Navy and then added Wink Of Stella to all of the stars and dots in the image. I used the same DSP to stamp the one sentiment on a small scrap and then bannered the one end.  I layered this with a strip of Dazzling Diamonds (now you would use Sparkle) glimmer paper.

To add the Love sentiment, I ran Whisper White through the big shot using the smallest stitched shape circle and also ran Night Of Navy card stock with the smallest layering scallop circle from the Layering Circles dies. The stamp is from the Labels to Love set which was a set that carried over from last year's holiday catalogue.

At this point I had to decide what colour my card base would be.  I tried this layout set on both a Whisper White card base and Night of Navy. As you can tell, Night of Navy won out. I felt that white was too much of a contrast.

To finish the card off, instead of adding rhinestones or some other embellishment, I used the Twinkle Builder punch to create glimmer paper stars in two sizes. I can't wait to make more of these!

Rooted In Nature Panel Card

The entire Nature's Poem Suite is a must have.  Between the stamp set and framelits to the DSP and twine there is no end to the combination of products and the amazing projects you can create.

This card was inspired, and 100% copied except for the colour scheme, from a card swap I participated in when the catalogue launched in June.

I took a Crumb Cake base to which I added two strips of the Nature's Poem DSP and one strip of Mint Macaron card stock.  The card stock was embossed using the two embossing pieces included in the framelits (this is a new feature with some framelits in that they will emboss rather than cut.)

I then used the framelits to cut out a leaf in each size as well as the branch of smaller leaves.  As I was using this card for a class, I made a template from which I cut out all three pieces so that this card could be mass stamped easily using the Stamparatus and my template. (pic below) The leaves are stamped in Tranquil Tide and the collection of leaves in Mint Macaron. The collection has the appearance of being tied onto the card using the Mint Macaron Twine.

The sentiment is stamped in Tranquil Tide and surrounded by three rhinestones, one of each size.  An alternate to rhinestones would have been to use the Faceted Gems in Mint instead.

As the DSP has similar papers in different colour schemes, this card is easy to recreate with Grapefruit Grove and Petal Pink.

The template I made for the Stamparatus so that I could punch out multiple shapes and then stamp all three at once!

Can`t Get Enough of this Fancy Fold and the Broadway Bound Suite!

I couldn't resist sharing both this fancy fold and suite of products with my most recent class.  It's super easy to create but allows for an interesting layout and a smile when your recipient finds out how it opens.

The card base is Basic Black and the DSP is one of the patterns from the Broadway Bound Specialty Papers (think gold foil on one side of each design).

To create the base, you cut a piece of 8.5 x 11 card stock on the diagonal.  You then score along the long edge at 5.5 and then the short edge at 4.25. The DSP is then a rectangle of 5.25 x 4 also cut on the diagonal.  Depending on the pattern, you need to plan out how to cut your diagonal.  (watch the video below to see what I mean)

I used the Layering Circles Framelits for the Whisper White and Lovely Lipstick pieces.  I stamped the candle image three times in Lovely Lipstick and then used my Basic Black marker to draw the wick.  The candle flame is Soft Suede first stamped off on a scrap and then stamped on the card. The entire sentiment/image piece is then attached to the card front using dimensionals on only one half.  I have attached it to the bottom half of the card.  In order for the card to open, you can only attach to one half. I also added a few of the Metallic Pearls for added interest.

Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper

I was challenged to create a projecting showing at least two different patterns from one pack of Designer Series Paper.  I decided to go with 5 instead! This card layout is a CASE from StampedAf.
Four of the patterns are quite obvious.  Can you find the 5th?  It's the piece with the sentiment stamped on it (stamped in Tranquil Tide).  I used the Tailored Tag punch which carried over from the Occasions Catalogue to the Annual Catalogue.

I also decided to add a bit of texture to the card front.  I did this by embossing the two solid cardstock pieces using the NEW Lovely Floral Folder (Fresh Fig & Tranquil Tide) and by using one of the stamps from the Seaside Textures set (think Octopus set) and stamping tone on tone.  I used Mint Macaron ink to match the card base AND also stamped off once to make it even more subtle.  I still wanted to add something more so I added a few of the Mint Macaron faceted gems.

Welcome

I wanted to make a cute card to welcome our new neighbours and I knew I wanted to include the Wood Crate Framelit and the Beautiful Bouquet set. I also used two different patterns/tones from the Wood Textures 6x6 DSP pack (currently part of the buy 3 get 1 free DSP promo for July only).

And then it got away from me and turned into a pop of the page creation with multiple layers of flowers in the crate.  I was thankful for my Stamparatus as it allowed me to punch out several of each flower shape with the BigShot and then stamp them after the fact using the jig I had made.
Did you know as long as the die is not detailed, you can punch out two at a time with your Big Shot.  And then with the jig I had made, I was able to stamp one of each flower shape/size all at the same time!  So awesome!  Do you have your Stamparatus yet?  They are now available in the annual catalgoue.

One more Broadway Bound Fancy Fold

I had created an extra fancy fold base to demonstrate the fold on a video and also a Lovely Lipstick wish when I was testing out the framelits.  Well..... I needed a card for my niece who happens to LOVE pink so these 'scraps' were perfect to whip up a quick card to send back with Grandma to give her today.

I used twine and the cake cutouts (inside the card) from June's Paper Pumpkin and a retired sequin but the rest if from the Broadway Bound Suite.  The colours are Lovely Lipstick and Granite Gray.

Birthday Boy

So my son turned 7 on July 3rd and I realized the night before when I was wrapping his gifts that I didn't have a card for him. Not handmade or store bought.  It's often the people closest to us who end up with the last minute card as we just figure we'll get to it.

Well thankfully I did and I'm happy with the end result.  Disclaimer - every item except for the punch and cardstock are retired. Well, not the rhinestones, or ink or blends either....

I CASEd this card from Stempel Fantasie and then twisted it to make it my own.  My kid has red high tops, he loves to play soccer with his friends and he is a STAR in my eyes.  Another super quick card that I will likely add to my go to layouts for quick cards - especially for kiddos!

Broadway Bound and a Sketch Challenge

This particular suite caught my eye as soon as I first saw the catalogue but it was never at the top of my list.  And then they told us that the June Paper Pumpkin kit was going to coordinate with the suite.  I still couldn't decide whether or not to buy it quite yet.... As you can tell from this post, I changed my mind.  Am I ever glad that I did!  I am LOVING creating with not only the stamp set and framelits but also the Designer Series Paper, the ribbon and the pearls.  The only item I don't own is the candle embellishments.  You need to have this bundle/suite if you like to make birthday or celebration cards.  You will NOT regret it!.

This top card was the sketch challenge.  I LOVE this sketch!  It was sooo easy to put together a quick card and after seeing what the other team members created with the same sketch, I know it will be a regular in my arsenal of quick card layouts.

These next cards were two cards I CASEd from the Paper Pumpkin Facebook Live video and we created in my Paper Pumpkin class.  The ladies loved them and so do I.  Again, two cards I would make again and again!

The party hats and ribbon card uses the Marbled Background stamp and Lemon Lime Twist.  I love how it turned out. These background stamps are hidden gems for quickly making a so-so card come together.  They may seem a bit pricey for one stamp but they are big and SO worth the investment. You do need the largest block to use them.

This is a fancy fold card which was new to the group and they were hooked.  It's super easy (I did a video on my FB page last week) but the recipient will think it was super complicated for you to create!  We used two of the new ribbons in the catty as well as the Faceted Gems in black.

I've got one more gem to share but I have to wait until after the weekend when the birthday girl receives it.

Colour Challenge - Crumb Cake, Bermuda Bay & Powder Pink

Twice a month my upline puts out a creative challenge for those of us on her team. It is completely up to us if we participate but we are entered into a draw for a freebie if we do.

This most recent challenge was a colour combo challenge. Not necessarily three colours I would have put together but I’m really happy with the end result. I knew I wanted to use the Sea of Textures Bundle to create this card so the octopus and sea grass were my starting point.

I’m going to send this to a friend with some stuff going on hence the messaging inside and out. The front sentiment is actually from the Coffee Cafe stamp set and the inside is from Sorry for Everything set. Both are portions of a bigger sentiment so I had to get creative with ink pads or use markers to get only the bits I wanted.

The DSP is part of the Tranquil Textures Suite. I then added a bit more texture to it by stamping the net image onto it in the same tone (crumb cake). I used the Seaside embossing folder as well.

Rooted In Nature

Although I have worked with this set at OnStage in Red Deer, I had yet to open up my open stamps and framelits. Finally today, I CASEd a Rhonda Wade card and put this suite into action!

The card is a combination of Mint Macaron and Crumb Cake with Early Espresso for the sentiment.  It uses the coordinating DSP and Baker's Twine.  Love!

Unfortunately, the quality of this video for some reason seems to shift between blurry and clear so my apologies for that.  I have posted a picture of the final result for your reference.

Broadway Bound Suite

This bundle was on my wish list from the moment I saw the catalogue in April at OnStage in Red Deer but when June 1st rolled around, it had moved down my list enough that I was considering waiting to order it until later in the year.

I changed my mind as I knew it coordinated with June's Paper Pumpkin and I wanted to be able to offer some incentives to customers to try out Paper Pumpkin.  It didn't get my any new subscribers but none the less, I am super excited to have ordered it no rather than having waited!

If nothing else, you NEED to have the DSP; it is outstanding!! Gold foil, lemon lime twist, lovely lipstick, gray granite......SUPERB!  Add to that the wicked stamp set and coordinating framelits and this is a WIN WIN.

I CASEd this card straight from the catalogue.  I plan to do that with each of my new sets as a quick way to get a card created and also to remind each of us that the catalogue is full of amazing card ideas that each of us can make at home.

The white square is stamped with Lemon Lime Twist, the candle in Lovely Lipstick, the flame in Pineapple Punch and the Sentiment in Lovely Lipstick (on Powder Pink cardstock). The wish sentiment is accented with the new Metallic Pearls and there is a tiny bit of Gold Foil under the lower sentiment. The shaker contents are primarily retired but there are some metallic sequins in there as well.

Add in white foam strips and a window sheet and you two can make this card.

It is a unique dimension at 4 5/8 square but with the envelope board you can create your own envelope easily enough!

More of Share What You Love

'Tis the time of year for thank you cards!  From teachers to coaches and anyone else who has gotten you through the 'season', now is the time we gift them with our gratitude for all their hard work.

These are just two of the many that I have been working on as I sneak in time crafting and make a point of using new papers, colours and stamp sets!  Both of these layouts were provided by Rhonda Wade.  They are simple yet stunning with the beautiful DSP and imagery of the stamp set.

This Share What You Love Designer Series Paper is a MUST have. It may be a bit pricier sure but when you consider the quality of the paper (handpainted and pearlized finishes)  and the quantity (24 sheets), you won't be sorry you invested.

And of course the Do What You Love stamp set is fabulous as well.  Beautiful images and amazing sentiments to pair with them.

Get yours today!

Two Step Stamping With Varied Vases

This card just 'came together' which was both unexpected and awesome!  Sometime it can take me up to 30 minutes to even figure out what elements I want to put together on a card front let alone design the layout, stamping and sentiment.

I was given all the paper pieces (except the banners for the sentiment) for this card but decided to change up template I was given to follow.  It was an easy start to flip over the amazing double sided DSP (patterned paper) to create a different background.  I then looked to the very versatile Varied Vases stamp set (for the 3rd time this week) to create my main stamped image and sentiment.  Always in the back of my mind was a request I had had for teacher thank you cards.

I stamped the vase and each of the flowers using Basic Black ink.  I then choose three colours from the DSP to use with the two step stamps in the set to create the coloured blossoms.  I used Grapefruit Grove for the orchids, Rich Razzleberry (stamped off once) for the tulips and Petal Pink (stamped over twice to deepen the colour) on the final blooms.

I absolutely LOVE the finished project.  Stay tuned for a video tutorial of this card.

Varied Vases

This is a great new punch and stamp set bundle available now from the 2018-2019 catalogue.  It was designed by one of the million dollar demos so we now it will be in the catalogue for years to come!

This first project was CASEd from Rhonda Wade with one or two twists of my own. I embossed the white layer with the Softly Falling EF to add a bit of texture and I lightened  my colour palette to Highland Heather and Soft Sea Foam.  (She has used Gorgeous Grape and Granny Apple Green).  I love the end result!

Additional supplies used where the 1 3/4 and 2" circle punches as well as the Layering Circles framelits.  Oh and we can't forget the rhinestones!

I am already getting requests for teacher cards so I added a quick layer to the card to personalize it for that use.

Rule of thumb when crafting..... if you are going to make one card, you might as well make two!  And really I wanted to play a bit more and had the time.  This card is my CASE of the sample on page 45 of the catalogue. I switched up the colours to match the DSP I currently own (this is Tranquil Textures) which had me working with Balmy Blue, Night of Navy, Fresh Fig and Tranquil Tide.  I love this card and plan to make several more to offer for teacher thank yous and for my general stock of cards.
